Tory chairman Grant Shapps has recently come under fire for allegedly having attempted to embellish his Wikipedia page, rooting out any small details which could have affected his reputation.

The Guardian reported that Wikipedia had discovered a suspicious account of a user who had apparently not only edited the politician’s page to make it look more appealing to the public eye, but had also done some vandalizing on the pages of his rivals.

Whether it was the chairman himself or someone working for him, it is yet unclear, but Wikipedia has already taken measures against the vicious users, blocking his access from the site.

The publication also conducted an investigation which confirms that about a third of the user’s contributions to the website were on Shapp’s page, while the others were mainly concentrated on denigrating other political leaders’ images.

Shapps was offended by the accusations

When confronted about the issue, the politician declared that, “This story is completely false and defamatory. It is nonsense from start to finish,” The Guardian reports.

However, all evidence points to him and the public unveiling of this disturbing piece of information has done nothing but stain the reputation which he had put so much editing effort into keeping clean.

To make matters worse, people are having difficulties believing the politician’s claims given that he has had some alter-ego issue before.

Shapps is known to have used the pseudonym of Michael Green to conduct some online business while he was an MP.

Unfortunately for him, his Wikipedia page now has a special section which deals with the chairman’s attempt to “favorably edit” his online biography.

In response to the claim, most of his fellow party members have jumped to Shapps’ defense, while rivals hastened to judge the politician’s behavior and ask him to come clean about the whole matter.

Despite his constant denial of the accusation brought forward, it is very unlikely that Shapps will manage to convince people of his innocence given his past mistakes.
