So far, he's been successful

Jim Murray, a retired 69-year-old police chief has seen a case once that haunted him until he found the answer. It was about a 13-year-old girl that was abducted and then killed by somebody she had met online. It was enough to have his hair stand on end and decide that if there was something to be done about preventing this kind of things from ever happening again, he'd do it. Empowered by the photos of his six grandchildren that ward the desk he keeps his computer on, he created an online persona in order to find and convict pedophiles.

His latest finding was that the mayor of a neighboring town was such a person and after chatting with him on several occasions, in which Jim's character was offered sex and asked for nude pictures, he finally had enough evidence.

The AP reported that one of the chatting session included lines like: 'Cin: i like to french kiss ... senior boy taught me. duke dukeadk: but it depends on where you want to be kissed at lol.' Cin is the online persona of Jim Murray, a girl named cindydiamond, while duke dukeadk is Allen Kauffman, mayor of Collins at the time.

His work is highly appreciated by the community he lives in and he said that people happen to stop him while he's shopping at Wall-Mart or at the filling station and congratulate him. "And that's a good feeling," he said.

Jim isn't only a retired policeman, but he is also helping his active colleagues with donating some investigation time he has available as a detective on reserve. He is actually chatting on average about 30 minutes a week, but he spends several hours a day going over the hard drives of the arrested suspects, in search for possible connections to other victims, as the Associated Press reports. And to think that he only bought a computer when he retired?
