They say that to err is human. Then again, there are certain mistakes that one simply cannot afford to make. More so if these “errs” can turn a person's life topsy-turvy with no warning and for absolutely no good reason.

23-year-old Ashley Huff, who currently lives in the city of Commerce in Georgia, US, found this out the hard way when she was arrested and put behind bars simply because cops mistook SpaghettiO sauce on a spoon in her bag for methamphetamine.

Ashley Huff's uncalled-for arrest

According to Huffington Post, it was several weeks ago, on July 2, that 23-year-old Ashley Huff was taken into custody. On that day, police officers inspecting a car this woman was a passenger in found that she was carrying a suspicious spoon in her bag.

What sparked the cop's interest in this spoon were some really weird traces that were visible on its surface. They assumed that these traces had been left behind by methamphetamine, and soon enough accused the woman of possession of this drug.

The 23-year-old tried to tell them that the traces were no more and no less than SpaghettiO sauce from a can she had just finished eating, but nobody bothered to listen. The woman was put behind bars, where she remained for about two weeks, media reports say.

Eventually, Ashley Huff's lawyer managed to get her out of prison. However, after the woman failed to report for a meeting in court, she was once again arrested. This second arrest happened on August 2, and the 23-year-old remained incarcerated until September 18.

It is understood that she was released after a laboratory analyzed the traces on the spoon that landed her in trouble with the law and found that they were in fact SpaghettiO sauce. It's unclear whether the cops who arrested this woman have since apologized for their actions.

Ashley's time in jail

The 23-year-old woman says that, while behind bars, she was so upset that she even considered entering a plea and accepting a permanent criminal record just so that she would be given permission to return home to friends and family.

“You just get worn out, your spirit gets worn down,” her lawyer, identified as Chris van Rossem, told the press in a recent interview concerning this peculiar legal case. “You reach a point where you’ll do anything just to get out of jail,” he added.

Now that she is finally free, Ashley Huff wants to file a lawsuit against her arresting officers. Not at all surprisingly, the latter maintain that they did nothing wrong and that, based on what they knew at the time they found the spoon in the woman's bag, they did right in arresting her.
