Rebecca Black managed to do the impossible: set new YouTube records and, at the same time, release the worst single and music video ever, “Friday.” Reaction to her first foray into “music” has been so harsh that police are now investigating a series of death threats she received.

“Friday” made Rebecca her first million in less than a week. It also scored her a deal with a record label, which enables her to work on her debut album as we speak.

Clearly, the world’s worst song (as some have described it) opened countless doors for her, which can’t be said about millions of other young artists out there.

Still, as one commenter to “Friday” writes on YouTube, “Rebecca Black, we don’t hate you cuz your famous... your famous coz we hate ya ;) [sic],” the only reason she’s that popular is because people don’t like her and her song.

In fact, some people hate Rebecca Black (who is just 13 years, by the way) so much they even went as far as to send her death threats: take “Friday” off the Internet or you die.

PopEater says police are now looking into said death threats, which they take very seriously.

“In essence the threats were related to getting the music off the Internet or they were going to kill her. We can’t validate how serious they are, but we do take it seriously,” a spokesman for the Anaheim Police confirms.

“It was reported that one death threat came by phone and the other by email,” PopEater says.

“Officers were reported to be keeping an extra eye out on Black as they investigated the messages which were made through her production and management companies,” the e-zine adds.

In case you needed further proof of how universally hated Rebecca Black’s “Friday” is, suffice it to say that it’s probably among the videos with the most dislikes on YouTube: over 2.2 million.
