The policemen belt out Pharrell's lyrics at the opening ceremony and it sounded awesome

It's not every day that you get to see Russian policemen singing their hearts out to one of the most popular songs of the year – Pharrell and Daft Punk's collaboration called “Lucky.”

The organizers of the opening ceremony for the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia decided to bring a touch of “Western pop culture” in the mix and had the Police Choir perform a customized version of “Lucky.”

I say customized because the Russian accent of the singers couldn't have been avoided, although you can tell those boys tried really hard to sound as American as they could. Also unavoidable were the typically Russian backup singers that performed the song as if it were a communist ode to the motherland.

But, despite all these influences, the songs sounds amazingly good. At one point, one of the singers manages a mindbogglingly similar imitation of the Daft Punk part of the song modified through a synthesizer.

With this awesome performance, Russia manages to wash away some of the shaming it's been receiving for the so-far poor organization of the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Such a wonderful display of musical prowess really does reveal how much power music has in breaking down barriers and bringing us together.
