Namco Networks has just announced the launch of Pole Position: Remix for Apple's
iPhone and iPod touch. The
racing game is currently available to buy on the iTunes App Store. It boasts an intuitive control scheme using both the accelerometer and touch-screen of the iPhone and iPod touch.
Since iPhone racing games are all about control,
Namco decided to implement a “Tilt to Steer Mode” which allows you to steer your car by tilting the device either to the left or to the right, simulating the feel of an actual steering wheel. This feature uses the iPhone's accelerometer. If not satisfied with this control scheme, players can opt for a “Touch Wheel Mode”, which allows them to rotate a virtual, on-screen wheel to control their car. Ultimately, “Slider Mode” lets players slide their fingers across the on-screen slider to steer. So, while other features, like perhaps the game's score or the graphics, may not appeal to some, the control system has this game covered, especially since gameplay can also be customized for left-handed and right-handed users.
Also noted by Namco Networks is the game's realistic control during sharp turns. The developers also implemented a “touch-to-break” option which players can use to perform “power slides.” But what's a racing game without some decent racing modes. Besides the Practice and Single Race modes usually found in most racing titles, Pole Position: Remix for iPhone and iPod touch also offers Grand Prix and Sudden Death, where players earn points or the distance traveled and for passing competing cars, unlock reversed or mirrored versions of the tracks, race in new cars, or experience different themes. Some themes are based on classic favorites such as PAC-MAN, Galaga and Dig Dug, Namco reveals.
“Pole Position: Remix is a fun and intuitive game that anyone can take for a spin,” says Scott Rubin, senior vice president, Namco Networks. “Similar to playing a racing game in an arcade, Pole Position: Remix makes you feel as if you are actually getting behind the wheel and racing on the track, screeching around turns and breaking to avoid a crash.”
Pole Position: Remix is available immediately for purchase on the iTunes App Store.
