The device runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box

Iconic photography equipment maker Polaroid came at CES 2015 ready to unleash a bunch of new products. Nevertheless, with all the fuss and commotion characteristic of the event, some of its devices went basically unnoticed.

In an earlier piece, we were telling you about Polaroid’s two new super-budget Android 5.0 Lollipop tablets, but the photo maker also brought a selfie-centric handset in Las Vegas.

Polaroid Selfie copies the Oppo N1's camera

But if you take a look at the Polaroid Selfie, you’ll probably get a strange deja-vu. The handset dons a main 13MP frontal rotating camera which is very similar to what we see on the Oppo N1 handset.

As for specifications, the device is built around a 5.5-inch IPS display with 720 resolutions. The handset’s life is sustained by an octa-core CPU which remains unnamed, so we’ll have to guess it’s MediaTek chipset fitted with 2GB of RAM.

Internal storage has been set to 16GB of memory (no microSD card slot included for further expansion) and Android 5.0 Lollipop is the default operating system on board.

The specs seem decent enough but the problem is the rotating camera, which is an obvious rip-off of the Oppo N1.

Will Oppo take legal action against Polaroid?

Oppo has already been contacted about the matter but the company has recognized that they have not patented the rotating camera phone on the N1 (as seen at GSM Arena).

But at the same time, the Chinese OEM hasn’t licensed the design of the rotating camera to any other third parties. Oppo says that they will continue to monitor the event and reserve their right to take further legal action.

In the meanwhile, Polaroid hasn’t said anything about pricing or availability of the handset in the US or any other external markets, but we have to assume that the device will be marketed with an affordable price tag, if it ever makes it to the market, that is.

We’ll keep an eye out for it!
