The development team believes the 3DS is the best platform for the series

With the Wii U now out for more than 2 months, many fans are expecting to see a Pokemon video game announced for the new Nintendo home console rather than the 3DS handheld.

But the new X & Y titles will not arrive on the Wii U and it seems that the main reason is the vision of the team working on the franchise.

J.C. Smith, who leads the international marketing division for The Pokemon Company, tells Game Informer that, “traditionally Game Freak has always loved the game to be on a portable device because of the communication, trading, and the experience of taking this adventure with you. That’s why they’ve always prioritized a portable version of the game first.”

A desire for interaction between players might mean that no GameFreak-made Pokemon game will ever be launched on a home console first.

Pokemon X & Y will be out in the fall, on the 3DS.
