Apparently, the upcoming remakes of the Game Boy Advance classics, Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, will also include a StreetPass-powered Secret Base feature.

Initially revealed to be full remakes of the old classic Pokemon titles, it seems that the two games will actually pack enough new content between them to warrant a purchase that is not grounded only in nostalgia over the 2002 originals.

In Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Secret Bases are customizable areas in which players can set up their very own Pokemon Gyms, including custom battle rule sets, or even build mazes and traps in case they're expecting unwanted company.

The reveal comes from Gematsu, reporting that players will be able to open their base to other humans enjoying the world of Pokemon via StreetPass or even QR codes, in order to provide a broader online reach.

Trainers who visit your Secret Base then become your Secret Pals, and enable you to interact with them to battle or use certain special skills such as faster egg hatching or leveling. The push for more social interaction is pretty obvious in the upcoming titles, as the bonuses are stackable, which means that the more Secret Pals you have, the more of these bonuses you will be able to make use of.

Just try to keep them a secret, lest you risk the envy of less friendly players. The more Secret Pals you recruit, the more special skills you will be able to gain access to.

However, the gains are not one-sided by any means, as visitors also get some nice perks. While visiting other people's Secret Bases, you can pick up various flags, which you can then utilize in order to improve the bonuses offered by your own Secret Pals, by earning a higher rank.

Nintendo seems to be doing a lot of things right with Pokemon lately. The company has just offered its fans a free Fancy Pattern Vivillon, available for owners of Pokemon X and Y, in order to celebrate 100 million online trades taking place between the game's players.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are currently scheduled for release exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming console, on November 21 in North America and Japan, and November 28 in Europe.
