Developer Game Freak has revealed the new type of Pokemon evolution that will be introduced in the upcoming Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby games, headed for the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming device.

The new information has been unveiled on the developer's website, letting players know that the new type of evolution is called Primal Reversion, and it makes the two legendary Pokemon featured on the games' covers, Groudon and Kyogre, even bigger and more intimidating than ever before.

The Primal Reversion involves the two legendary Pokemon seizing the natural energy surrounding them and utilizing it to transform into their primordial forms that they had in ancient times.

"It was a primal age, early in the world's history. The natural world was overflowing with energy. That energy granted Groudon and Kyogre an overwhelming power. Brimming with the overwhelming power granted to them by nature's energy, their transformation was named 'Primal Reversion' by later people. And the people called their tormentors Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre," the developers explain.

The Primal forms of the two Pokemon are the ones featured on the game covers, showing the two creatures significantly more powerful. Groudon's Attacks stat is greatly increased, its Special Ability changes, and it becomes a Fire Type Pokemon. Kyogre goes through a similar transformation, but for now Game Freak is keeping a lid on the specifics.

Nintendo has said that the upcoming games will represent a "fresh take" on the originals, but for now details on how exactly the two games will be changed, apart from the spruced-up visuals and new playable character designs, are scarce.

The adventure is set to take place in Hoenn, a region that consists of a main body of land that stretches wide, alongside with countless small islands scattered in the sea around it.

Hoenn is a land of astonishing natural beauty and varied Pokemon to capture, and with an active volcano right in the middle of its lush forests.

The two games will deliver a stunning story that will come closer and closer to the reveal of the secrets behind the Mega Evolution, one of the greatest mysteries of the entire Pokemon world.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are the remakes of the old Ruby and Sapphire games on the Game Boy Advance, announced last month and expected to come out on November 21 in Japan and North America, and November 28 in Europe, for the Nintendo 3DS.
