Earlier this year, NVIDIA's CEO, Mr. Jen-Hsun Huang, said that it expected about 20 ION-based designs to surface on the market, before the year's end, providing users with a few more choices when it came to a low-power, ultraportable computer system. On that note, Point of View, one of the graphics chip maker's board partners, has recently announced the introduction of its new Mobii FamilyPC, a desktop computer system based on the aforementioned NVIDIA ION-based product. The new system is built to provide users with a low-power solution that can handle HD video and offer support for an HTPC system.
Point of View's Mobii FamilyPC will be available in either white or black color options and can be configured with either a single-core Intel Atom N230 processor, or a dual-core Atom 330 CPU, depending on the user's performance requirements. Based on the NVIDIA ION platform, the desktop can provide its customers with a large-capacity, 320GB hard drive, 2GB of DDR2 RAM and the GeForce 9400 integrated graphics solution.
Measuring in at 322 x 200 x 183 mm, the Mobii FamilyPC can be equipped with a choice for an 8x DVD optical drive, or a Blu-ray drive, for those looking to use the system as an HTPC. Additional features include the Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, D-Sub, DVI and HDMI video outputs, coupled with an impressive eight USB 2.0 ports, all on a low-profile mITX motherboard.
Unfortunately, we have no details regarding the pricing and availability of the new NVIDIA ION-based desktop PC, but the system is likely to hit the retail channels before this year's holiday shopping season and could ship with Microsoft's Windows 7 OS, which is due out in October. Although it doesn't sport an attractive design, like some of the other NVIDIA ION-based systems, including the ones from Acer, Asus or Pegratron.
