Hacker Pod2g has confirmed new progress in his development of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 on Apple devices built around the A5 chip.

In a message released to his 326K followers yesterday, the leader of the Chronic Dev Team said: “OK just added iPad3,3 support to Absinthe thanks to @flawlessfox. Only remains iPad2,4 now but we need the actual device.”

In other words, one device to go and Pod2g will roll out his much-anticipated untethered jailbreak to the masses. The hacker had previously considered holding off the release until iOS 6 was out, but he ceded to finally launch the hack, having seen immense demand from the iOS community.

There’s a good chance Apple will patch his jailbreak in an interim iOS 5.1.2 release.
