After posting a video demonstration featuring an iPad jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1, infamous hacker Pod2g confirmed to his 300K Twitter followers that he managed to jailbreak an iPad 3,1 model using his exploits with great success.

“OK, tested on an iPad 3,1 running 5.1.1. Jailbroken untethered. [...] No issue,” reads Pod2g’s tweet.

The hacker had previously noted that “If it works on iPad 3 and iPhone 4, I can say it'll work on any device,” adding that “the ATV3 may be out.” There’s still no exact ETA for the release, but it appears Pod2g is determined to publish his jailbreak before iOS 6 rolls out.

Apple is likely months away from launching the next major iOS version which should patch all of the exploits used in this jailbreak. Fortunately, word has it that other hackers have additional exploits that should ultimately pave the way for a future jailbreak.
