Nag-countering cushion for the hacker who burns the midnight oil for you

In an attempt to fend off potentially irrelevant queries from the iOS community, French hacker Pod2g has decided to post a FAQ on his blog explaining why the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices is taking some time to fledge.

The software tinkerer has recently confirmed that, “with some luck”, an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 will be out soon.

His timetable may still hold water as far as the iOS community is concerned, but Pod2g wants to make sure everyone is on the same level of understanding when it comes to his work.

So he posted this comprehensive FAQ on his blog (reproduced below), shedding some light on the particularities of his A5 hacks.

How could pod2g have an untethered 4S and dev teams still haven't released tools to achieve this at home?

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can't be released publicly. It's the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn't distribute it. So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

Why A4 version of Corona was easier to release?

Because a tethered jailbreak is a good way to install Corona! Why don't you do a tethered jailbreak then?

A tethered jailbreak also relies on an exploitable vulnerability that we still haven't found yet!

pod2g, release this stuff quick, [your insult here], I've waited enough now.

If I could, I would!

Thanks to Pod2g’s efforts, A4 device owners can now achieve an untethered jailbreak under iOS 5.0.1.

However, around the time he commissioned the iPhone Dev Team to incorporate his exploit in Redsn0w and PwnageTool, he also issued a warning about a potential iOS 5.0.2 release from Cupertino, which may kill off his jailbreak.

At the time, he advised jailbreakers to stay away from the iOS 5.0.2 update.
