Hack in the Box 2013 Amsterdam yields juicy jailbreak tidbits

We may see a jailbreak before iOS 7 after all, according to Pod2g, the French hacker who is responsible for the discovery of various exploits used in iOS jailbreak tools.

Some of the most noteworthy names on the iOS jailbreak scene are present at the Hack in the Box 2013 conference in Amsterdam, including David Wang (@planetbeing), Nikias Bassen (@pimskeks), and the hacker famously known as Pod2g (Cyril).

We managed to get hold of the latter right after a geeky conference and asked him about their intentions regarding future jailbreaks.

We were curious to know if we will have to wait until iOS 7 is released.

Apparently this is a general misconception, because the dream team of hackers known as the evad3rs is ready to take on iOS 6.2, if Apple decides to roll it out.

Pod2g told us, “we're not releasing any jailbreaks until the next major release.”

Being pushy is in our job description, so we quickly asked, “so until iOS 7?” to which Pod2g replied, “yes, or until another major release, like iOS 6.2.”

During the conference, hacker David Wang answered another burning question: will the jailbreaks continue to roll out now that the exploits are becoming harder to find?

Wang said they will always be able to release jailbreaks, because exploits are constantly found in Apple's mobile OS.

He then proceeded to reveal that one of the exploits used in evasi0n was actually two years old, but since the team never used it, Apple never got around to patching it.

The latest iOS version released by Apple is iOS 6.1.3. The software update closes the holes used by the evasi0n jailbreak.

While its creators could use spare exploits to compromise it, their efforts would be completely canceled in a future software update, like iOS 6.1.4.

This is the main reason why the hackers are holding off such intentions until Apple rolls out a major version.
