Two weeks to go before everyone can jailbreak their precious iPhone or iPad

Hacker extraordinaire Pod2g has confirmed plans to roll out his jailbreak for iOS 5.1.x iterations (and below) which reportedly works on “all” devices.

That’s right, not only has Pod2g finally ceded to the community’s cries, but the hacker has managed to pull his jailbreak off on all iOS devices shipped by Apple to this date. All except the third-generation Apple TV, which requires a tad more tinkering.

“As I said earlier in twitter, there's still a lot to do to have a user friendly and well tested tool to install the jailbreak on end users devices. Expect a release in a couple of weeks,” Pod2g confirmed in a blog entry issued minutes ago.

He explains that the reason why it takes so much time is that “There are 16 different devices out there to work on and to test.”

The jailbreak will be compatible with all iPhones, iPads and iPod touch players, as well as all iOS versions up to 5.1.1 and (perhaps) beyond, provided that Apple doesn’t patch the vulnerabilities in the interim.

“It will be compatible with any device running iOS 5.1.1 except ATV3 (right now, may change in a near future, nobody knows),” reads Pod2g’s FAQ.

For those asking if they have a shot a becoming a beta tester, Po2g is said to inform that this is not an option for him. The reason is simple: security.

In the hacker’s own words, “...sorry [...] Only really trusted people (that can be counted on one hand) could have access to the jailbreak. I don't want any leak to happen.”

He reinforced his earlier stance on refusing even a million dollars for access.

Q: What if I offer you 1,000,000$?

A: That doesn't change a thing.

The hacker concludes his post telling fans “Be patient, it's gonna happen.”
