Hackers confirm progress but need more time for public release

Tweets coming from resounding names in the iOS hacker community seem to confirm some exciting progress on the A5 front. However, the leader of the Chronic Dev Team, Pod2g, is said to inform that the latest jailbreak can’t be released to developers for testing.

The iPhone Dev Team’s Musclenerd kicks it off today with a tweet that says, “props to @saurik for major contributions to the A5 version of @pod2g's untether yesterday!  (still no ETA, but moving forward).”

Pod2g then follows with his own tweet, which seems to explain what their progress consists of: “@MuscleNerd @saurik And greetings to @planetbeing for the coding + research. Really great stuff to escape from the sandbox.”

In a blog entry dated January 6, Pod2g had announced that “@planetbeing, the legendary hacker behind iPhone Linux and lot of jailbreaks […] has joined the A5 research!”

“The famous @MuscleNerd […] the leader of the iPhone Dev Team, who did a lot of tests for Corona and whom integrated it and made it simple in redsn0w is willing to help also,” he said.

“And last, but not least @p0sixninja […] the leader of the Chronic Dev Team, and my partner for years on iPhone security research has started to code and fuzz the Apple sandbox,” he wrote.

Pod2g called the trio a “dream team” and added himself to the mix “to find a path for a public release of the A5 jailbreak.”

While that A5 jailbreak may be just around the corner, Pod2g is said to inform that the usual beta testing round will not be available this time around.

“Sorry, we can't release the A5 for the developers, the exploit used have to be kept secret. I know this is unfair,” he wrote on Twitter just a few minutes ago.

For those wondering what this is all about, a while ago one of the beta testers for an iOS jailbreak intentionally leaked the exploit to Apple, enabling the Cupertino company to patch it up before the aforementioned hackers could make a public rollout.

This treachery had burned their exploit, sending weeks of hard work down the drain.
