Most of the times, people who want to see a whale up close and personal have to get aboard a boat and head to the open waters.

However, people living in Vancouver had an unexpected and very pleasant surprise when a pod of killer whales decided to do some human-watching and dropped by for a visit.

The marine mammals were spotted swimming close to Stanley Park this past Friday. The whales eventually made their way into Vancouver Harbor, HuffPost says.

Twitter user Lara Rose Tansey managed to snap some pictures of the pod of orcas, and posted them online. Apparently, the group was made up of eight killer whales, and some of them were youngsters.

Wildlife researchers suspect that the orcas entered Vancouver Harbor not because they were desperate to find out what city life was all about, but because they were hungry and looking for something to eat.
