Pocket Communications announced the launch of two new entry-level mobile phones coming from ZTE, namely the C78 and C79. It seems that the operator intends to offer the fresh devices on the New England and Texas markets, and its subscribers would be able to enjoy two basic feature phones that can offer call and texting capabilities.

“We are pleased to be expanding our carrier reach by partnering with Pocket Communications, one of the fastest growing carriers in the U.S.,” said Dr. George Sun, CEO, ZTE USA. “Particularly in this current economic climate, ZTE understands that it is more important than ever to provide carriers with the options consumers are looking for and devices equipped with the latest features at affordable prices.”

The new ZTE C78 and the ZTE C79 were launched at the CTIA Wireless 2009 trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada as two music phones aimed at the US market. The new mobile phones are among the first available in the country that also include support for the AWS frequency bands, while also being able to work on the PCS and Cellular bands.

“With the recent availability of the new AWS spectrum, carriers now have the potential to provide expanded wireless services to U.S. customers. Selecting the right device is a key to bringing the benefits of the new spectrum to life for end-users,” said Dr. George Sun. “Our new handsets allow U.S. carriers, both large and small, to leverage the AWS spectrum and fully profit from their investments in the spectrum.”

The C79 comes as a full-featured and easy-to-use flip phone that sports a 2-inch high resolution screen, an MP3 music player, a 1.3-megapixel photo snapper, stereo Bluetooth, and support for a microSD memory card for additional storage space. The fresh C78 is a candybar-shaped mobile phone that includes a VGA camera, as well as multimedia messaging capabilities and Internet browsing functionality. Its owners would also be able to use the phone's Bluetooth capabilities for hands-free conversations via a wireless headset.

The newly launched handsets are added to the company's full portfolio of end-to-end wireless devices and networking solutions available in the U.S. In addition, the company also says that its mobile phones are designed and manufactured in-house, and that they are able to offer a wide range of features and high quality at affordable price points.
