Police argues that recent floods allowed for this to happen

The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in India was recently largely flooded as a result of heavy rains in the region. Apparently, this made it easier for poachers to reach the animals that took refuge on higher grounds.

Using a boat, the poachers made their way well into the reserve, where they shot an adult male rhino and took its horn, which supposedly has healing properties and therefore sells for considerable amounts of money.

The police argue that there was little Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary's guard could have done to prevent this from happening, given the fact that the floods also forced them to move camp.

As it is well known, rhinos are an endangered species and therefore each and every one of them is equally important for safeguarding our planet's biodiversity.
