Photographed by Xavi Gordo, Tara is labeled a “real woman”

In recent years, there’s been a decided shift in the fashion industry towards embracing more body sizes, which has led to the rise of the plus-size modeling industry. Tara Lynn is the latest “it girl” from plus-size modeling and she’s just landed the cover of Elle Spain, the November 2013 issue.

Tara is gorgeous, as you can also see from the photo attached to this article and, compared to many regular women, she is anything but what we might understand as “plus-size.” That’s because plus-size in fashion is actually normal-sized in the real world.

Dubbed “mujer real” (“real woman” in English), Tara is bringing all her model fierceness to the cover and, something unheard-of until recently even with plus-size models, she’s also flashing plenty of skin.

The move to have her on the cover has earned Elle warm praise from all virtual corners of the Internet, even though many still criticize the magazine for the choice of words attached to it: all women are “real women,” curves or no curves.

While most media outlets and glossies choose to focus on the fact that Tara’s cover is in itself a stepping stone, we can’t but help notice the fact that she appears to be considerably – and quite digitally so – slimmed down.

The second photo attached to this article is Tara’s Elle France cover from 2010 and she definitely looked curvier than she does now. Of course, she could have lost the weight since then but that’s highly unlikely: when a plus-size model loses weight, she loses work.

Plus, in 2012, Tara Lynn looked like this.

So, if this gorgeous model is considered a “real woman” and is featured on the cover of the prestigious Elle magazine, why is her image altered almost beyond recognition? To us, this reads like Elle wanted to get on the body diversity wagon without actually doing so because they slimmed her down in Photoshop, like pure hypocrisy.
