Google Search is surely the most popular internet search engine because it features a huge number of functions. Beside images, videos, maps,
news and more, Google Search is now updated with a new feature that will allow business customers to add a small map to their company that is indexed by Google.
How does it work? Let's suppose I decide to send Google a map with the exact location of the Softpedia office. After I visit Google's Local Business, I will add my information about location, phone, fax, payment types, description and even hours. Then, you can test the service by searching on Google for the name of your company and you should be able to see a plus sign that allows you to expand the search results and view the map.
The service is free for all users and you can send multiple locations using Google Base, another service that helps you add content to Google Search. The company said it will verify the information by phone or by postcard and also added that the service is currently available only for Firefox and Internet Explorer users.
"The address link shown below some sites in our search results (in an expandable area called a Plus Box) is meant to help searchers locate businesses and compare search results. We show the address link for results that are local in nature and for which we have an associated address. If we don't have an address for your business, or we don't think that an address is relevant to your site we won't show it," Google said.
This feature can be very useful for some users, because it allows them to find more information without any other service and with a simple mouse click.
