Famous optical disc drive (ODD) manufacturer, Japanese company Plextor has decided to release a special, limited edition of its high-performance famous M3 Series SSD. The new toy has been spotted in Japan and comes in a very cool red case.

Plextor’s limited edition drive is called “Ninja-256” and the company touts that it features a special kind of firmware that achieves higher than average performance, which is indeed quite an achievement, as Plextor’s M3 series were already very fast drives.

The new drive is powered by Marvell’s 32nm controller and features Toshiba’s fast Toggle-NAND. There are 512 MB of DDR3 cache onboard and the drive cache and the drive thickness is just 7 millimeters.

There is no clear information on pricing, but considering that only 100 units will reportedly be available, we don’t think initial pricing will be too relevant.
