Plextor has just released its latest burner, the first external 10x dual layer disc capable drive, codename PX-755UF. Using a DVD R disc will get you as fast as 10x
; however, using -R dual layer disks will limit writing speed at 6x. As always, Plextor continues to surprise its buyers, this time offering an external solution connectable both by USB 2.0 and firewire interfaces and spotting higher speeds than the competition.

The new drive is supported both in Windows Xp and Mac Os environments and uses a 2MB firmware flash. Nothing new with the ever present Buffer Under Run Proof technology, but it's worth mentioning the fact that the new Plextor drive comes with a plethora of software consisting mainly of several applications which control the power of the laser beam during writing and overburning process. And of course there's GigaRec, Plextor's own overburning software. All this is included in the package that comes with the retailed drive under the name of "PlexTools Professional". And then there's Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 burning software as part of the retail applications that come with the drive. However, for Mac Os users, there's a downside to such an acquisition, mainly because Plextor decided to bundle software only for Windows platforms.

The Plextor PX-755UF is expected to ship in mid-November in North America with a price tag of $159.
