Plextor Adds New Optical Drives to Its Offering

Plextor has recently announced some additions to its 2008 product line-up, a new offering that includes 6x Blu-ray Combo drives, 22x Super Multi DVD±RW drives, and an 8x Slim External USB DVD±RW for PC and Mac. The products the company has introduced are PX-610U 8X Slim External USB Super Multi Drive, PX-B310SA BD Combo Drive (6X internal SATA) and PX-B310Q (6X external USB), the PX-850SA (22X internal SATA) and PX-850A (22X internal PATA).

The PX-610U 8X Slim External USB Super Multi Drive is available both for Mac and PCs. The drive is a self-powered portable DVD writer which packs an internal battery. This way, the PX-610U does not require an AC adapter or multiple USB ports, but it can work while connected through a single USB port for both power and data transfer. The driver features support for 8X burns on single layer DVD±R/+RW media (4.7 GB) as well as 6X burns on double/dual layer and DVD-RW media (8.5 GB) and 5X on DVD-RAM media.

The PX-B310SA and PX-B310Q are Blu-ray Disc Combo Drives, 6x Blu-ray Reader plus Super Multi DVD+RW drive, offering users an all-in-one solution for playing back Blu-ray Discs, while also being capable of archiving data onto CD or DVD. The PX-B310SA internal drive can read BDs at 6x, write to single layer DVD±R media at 16x, to double/dual layer media (8.5 GB) at 8X and to DVD-RAM media at 12x. Moreover, it can also write data to CDs at 48x. The external PX-B310Q version of the drive features a USB 2.0 interface.

The PX-850SA and PX-850A Super Multi DVD±RW allow users to burn data to any DVD or CD media, including DVD-RAM and DVD±R DL. The PX-850SA can burn at 22X on single layer DVD±R media (4.7 GB), at 8X on double/dual layer media (8.5 GB) and at 12X on DVD-RAM media.

PX-610U, PX-850SA and PX-850A are bundled with Roxio Creator 10 CE. In addition, the Mac version of PX-610U arrives with a full retail version of Toast 9 Titanium. The PX-B310SA and PX-B310Q drives come with Cyberlink BD Suite. All drives, except for the PX-610U for Mac, feature the PlexUTILITIES advanced application and diagnostic tool meant to allow users to view basic and advance drive information and control specific drive functions to customize drive operations. It also includes a utility tool which allows for a secure and easy way to destroy data on CD/DVD media.
