A DVD burning unit is much more than a gadget, it’s a necessity. So the following question arises: why would such a product be in the daily gadget section?

The answer is speed. Plextor’s 760 products, 760A (ATAPI) and 760SA (SATA), deliver state-of-the-art recording speeds of 18X DVD+/-R on certified 16X DVD+/-R media.

The Japanese company, famous for its optical media burning solutions, is the first to achieve this threshold, and those who are used to making DVD back-ups for everything will surely be amazed.

Aside
from speed, 760A and 760SA also incorporate a new technology, called AUTOSTRATEGY, that selects the optimized write strategy for every DVD disc and, if necessary, creates a new write strategy for unknown media.

Obviously, both devices use the well-known Buffer Underrun Proof Technology and have a 2MB buffer.

Another Plextor technology also implemented on previous models is PoweRec, which adjusts laser power and writing speed to optimum levels for a particular disc.

Other specifications include: 10X DVD+R on Double-Layer media and 6X DVD-R on Dual Layer media, 8X DVD+RW and 6X DVD-RW Rewriting; 16X max DVD-Reading; and 48X CD-R Writing, 24X CD-RW Rewriting, and 48X max CD-Reading

Plextor PX-760A will be available starting April 2006 and will have a price tag of $119, but unfortunately, there aren’t any additional details for the Plextor PX-760SA.
