And Sony will deliver more games

The biggest problem for the PlayStation Portable is that the videogames released for it were not that great and Sony is ready to acknowledge that.

More support for the platform might lead more potential buyers to get the device and use it to play games and watch media. With games like Patapon 2 already out, the console is getting into what's said to be its best year yet.

John Koller, who is the director of hardware marketing for Sony, has told Gamesindustry.biz that “You can think of some of the major franchises on console that would come over to PSP and people are going to be very excited. In much the same way they have been when they saw the Rock Band and Little Big Planet announcements. On another note, we're doing a better job of discussing what the PSP does. From a marketing perspective we're talking about the fact it can do movies and connect to the PS3, those types of things. To ensure the consumer understand what it can do.”

He also believes that in no way has the launch of the new and improved Nintendo DSi impacted the projections of his company regarding the PSP. The Nintendo console and the iPhone from Apple are not competing for the same demographic that Sony targets - those players who would like to get an experience on their handheld close to that of their home console.

Koller has also said that Sony plans to offer more features for the PlayStation Portable every six to eight months, but refused to say whether the company was getting ready to release another hardware version of the PSP or whether a PlayStation Portable 2 was in development. Let's hope that developers are ready to offer the videogames to make the Sony handheld a good purchase.
