Playboy finally launched Playboy U, a new social network that targets only teenagers and especially students from the US universities. What's most interesting about this new
webpage is that 'high schoolers, old dudes and your mom can't join,' as the official page of the service. Sadly or not, you can't join the service if you don't own an .edu email address, usually provided by colleges which host their websites on this special domain. The product allows students to create detailed profiles containing photos, videos, blogs, forums, private and public clubs as well as unique faculty and features.

"Get enrolled at Playboy U, an exclusive college-only non-nude social network. Here is where you can show your school pride, connect with other students and celebrate the social side of college," the official page of the service reads.

Playboy U also allows you to present your campus life and "connect with friends, make new ones and get into the campus social scene." "Special school pages, parties and on-campus events, active forums, polls and quizzes, college journalism and fiction and national radio show with student callers."

In the recent period, more and more companies developed their own social networks because it is a very popular domain among the Internet users. Take for example MySpace and Facebook, two Internet technologies that are now famous after their parent companies recorded huge profits as a huge amount of users registered on their websites. However, a social network is not necessarily a successful service because it depends on the way the producer promotes it.

A few days ago, it was reported that even the Mountain View giant Google might be interested in developing its own social network as it made some important steps in China to enter the market and compete with other top names such as MySpace, Hi5 or Facebook.
