Sony has made an official statement about the issues and glitches that plagued the PlayStation Vita, which were reported by the media after the release of the handheld device in Japan, saying that they were blown out of proportions and aren’t that widespread.

The PlayStation Vita was released in Japan at the end of last week and, shortly after that, reports of glitches and problems started popping up all over the web, with people saying that their devices either froze or had major problems with the touchscreen.

Now, Sony Computer Entertainment’s UK PR boss David Wilson revealed that the Vita’s problems in Japan weren’t that widespread, as the platform’s release was quite successful, and that reports concerning these issues were blown out of proportions by the media.

"The PS Vita has had a terrific launch and sold in large numbers. We're annoyed with these stories, because we can't find any evidence of widespread glitches,” Wilson told The Guardian.

Wilson even denied the apology that was issued by Sony Japan for these problems, saying that it was purely an apology for the long waiting times new Vita owners had to endure before getting to talk to customer support.

"The stories even said that Sony has issued an apology for PS Vita glitches, which simply isn't true - there's an apology on our Japanese website for people who are having trouble getting through to our technical help line, but that's it.”

"And there's a page showing standard procedures for powering the PS Vita on and off, which has been on our site since before the launch, which has been presented in some news stories as a means of solving the alleged glitches."

The PlayStation Vita’s Japanese launch, despite these problems, was still quite successful, with the company managing to move a lot of units in just a few days.

The console is now heading to North America and Europe in February, 2012.
