Sony will release later today a brand new firmware update for its recently launched PlayStation Vita handheld console, taking its software up to version 1.65.

The PlayStation Vita appeared at the end of February and we’ve already shared our impressions of its hardware and software, while posting a few reviews for some of its biggest games.

Now, Sony has presented a brand new firmware update for the new handheld console, taking it to version 1.65 and adding a few minor enhancements to its array of services, in order to address feedback from owners.

These include things like alerts for certain notifications, a new power save setting, or support for Caps Lock in the On Screen Keyboard.

“The next PS Vita System Software Update (v1.65) will be released soon,” Sony said, “and will include the following minor enhancements:" - A “Notification Alert” option will be added to Settings, so you can toggle alerts on or off - “After 10 minutes” will be added to the time options under Power Save Settings - An Arrow icon will now appear when PS Vita finds new activities in the LiveArea - Caps Lock will be supported in the On Screen Keyboard In case you’re not sure how to update the firmware on your PlayStation Vita, Sony also highlights two ways that can help you:

- Select “System Update” under the “Settings” menu and download the firmware directly to your PS Vita over Wi-Fi. - Connect your PS Vita to a PS3 or a PC/Mac and update via Content Manager. While these firmware updates for the PS Vita haven’t been as numerous as the ones for the PlayStation 3 recently, it’s great to see Sony addressing feedback from owners of the handheld console.

Have you enjoyed your time with the Vita or are you still waiting for that rumored price cut?
