Sony has confirmed that it will deploy a brand new firmware update for the PlayStation Vita handheld console, which brings quite a few new features, like a Map app, as well as the ability to capture videos with the Camera app.

The PlayStation Vita has been around for quite some time, at least in its native Japan, and now, just before the system’s release in Europe and North America, Sony has decided to bring another firmware update, taking the handheld console’s software to version 1.60.

Quite a lot of new things are included in the firmware according to Andriasang, including a Map app that lets you see a local or satellite map of your surroundings, get walking or driving directions, as well as view details about local points of interest.

The Camera app has also been updated and can now capture videos, not just photos. What’s more, the Home button will now flash blue when the Vita is connected to a power source.

The last important change in the Vita’s new firmware is that the PlayStation Network name has been changed into the Sony Entertainment Network.
