Some brand new reports say that the upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld console might see some features cut from its Japanese launch at the end of the year, including compatibility with PSone or TurboGrafx-16 games, as well as Flash support for its built-in web browser.

Sony is hyping up its PlayStation Vita these days, showcasing its applications and the hardware power that trumps current mobile platforms, whether they're dedicated, like the Nintendo 3DS, or multi-purpose, like the iPhone or iPad.

Still, for its release later this year, on December 17, in Japan, it seems that some of the features lauded by Sony won't be available for the portable console.

According to a report from Japanese magazine Famitsu, via Siliconera, the Vita won't have support for Game Archives at launch. These include, in Japan at least, games made for the PlayStation 1 or the TurboGrafx-16 systems, which were clearly emphasized as compatible with the Vita by Sony some time ago.

Other chopped features include the support for Adobe Flash in the web browser of the device, which does include other technologies, like HTML 5, Javascript version 1.7, as well as cookies to store special data.

The Vita will support, according to the magazine, PSP games at launch, although if you want to continue with your own save games, you need to transfer them via a PlayStation 3 home console or a PC. Also, when playing older PSP games, Sony offers a special bilinear filtering option, to make them look a bit better on the Vita's bigger 5-inch OLED screen.

Besides the features above, the magazine highlights things we already knew, like the array of applications included on the console, or the 20MB download limit when using the 3G connectivity.

No word yet from Sony if these missing features are true but, if so, then they might be released through a firmware update before the Vita is launched on February 22, in Europe and North America.
