After the big announcement that it was working with Spotify in order to bring a library of no less than 30 million songs to the PlayStation 4 and the PS3 using a new PlayStation Music app, the team at Sony is also revealing that it is taking down the Video Unlimited service and is replacing it with a new one called PlayStation Video.

The company says that the transition is set to take place starting in February of this year and that it is aiming to make sure that all users understand that the PlayStation Network is their entertainment hub, which allows them to access the content they are interested in.

The company explains that PlayStation Video will "continue to offer over 200,000 movies and TV shows across PlayStation platforms, Sony devices and PCs, in 11 countries and regions. With PS Video, users will have immediate access to buy or rent, not only a deep catalog of content, but the latest releases across movies and TV shows, including exclusive content only available on PlayStation, anytime and anywhere on various compatible devices."

This time around, Sony is not talking about any huge partnership but it will probably continue to work with content creators and other companies in order to expand the number of movies and TV shows gamers can watch using their PlayStation 4 and their PS3.

Sony is also creating its own original content, starting with Powers

In early March, gamers who are also comic book lovers will be able to stream the first three episodes of the new Powers series, which will then continue to deliver installments for those who have the PlayStation Plus services.

This is the first show that the company is creating in-house, and if it is successful, it will continue to try and secure other cool content that can be turned into a series.

Microsoft initially had a similar strategy for the Xbox One and launched the Nightfall series associated with Halo in 2014.

Since then, the company has eliminated most of the people who worked on entertainment at the Xbox division and it seems that it will focus on partnerships rather than on the creation of original content for users.
