Sony apologizes for the delay

Friday was set to be a great day for the PlayStation console. One of its biggest titles yet, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, was due to debut after it had already racked up a million in sales through preorders only. A new map pack for Unreal Tournament 3 was also set to launch on the same day.

But as the day crawled along, the PlayStation Store remained strangely unchanged from the previous day, with the announced new content failing to make an appearance. After the security glitches that hit the PlayStation Network earlier, allowing certain accounts to be hacked and some users to be parted with their credit card money, some news outlet thought that the Store was not updated to give Sony more time to fix its security vulnerabilities. However, Sony released a statement saying that "due to some last minute technical difficulties, we were unable to publish the new content to the PS Store."

As time passed on and Friday turned into Saturday, Sony seemed to get a handle on what was causing the technical issues and at last updated the store. You can now download Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in all its 2 GB download glory and there's also an UEFA 2008 demo which could be of interest to gamers.

Sony released another statement saying: "We would like to apologise for the lack of a PS Store refresh yesterday." It's nice to see that big companies are starting to care about the customers and their experiences when using such services as the PlayStation Network. In the 90s, few would have noticed a less-than-a-day delay in a store refresh and fewer still would have found the time to apologize to customers.

So, feel free to sink your gaming teeth into the new stuff over at the PlayStation store and don't forget to check your account and make sure nobody spent your store credit without your knowledge.
