Gamers need to redeem their bonus before December 5

Platform holder Sony announces that for the month of October it is launching a special offer for all those who plan to pick up video games on the PlayStation Store for either the PlayStation 4 or the PS3, offering them a 15 dollar (10.25 Euro) bonus for each 100 dollars (76 Euro) they spend on the service.

The official announcement says that gamers will be able to take advantage of the campaign from October 1 to October 28 and that it is only available in the United States and Canada.

The weirdest part of the offer is that the redemption code for the 15 dollar (10.25 Euro) will get to customers only on November 7 via e-mail, system notification on the PlayStation 4 and the Vita and XMB message on the PS3.

The money need to be redeemed before the end of December 5.

Sony states, “Use this opportunity to pick up already released games like Destiny and FIFA 15, or pre-order highly anticipated upcoming titles like DriveClub, NBA 2K15, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Assassin’s Creed Unity, LittleBigPlanet 3, Far Cry 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and more.”

The company also says that many titles are offered with pre-order and pre-load options so that players can get access to them as quickly as possible.

It’s unclear whether Sony has any plans to launch a similar offer for the European market at any point.

New moves in the console war

Since the current generation of home consoles was launched, both Sony and Microsoft have been bragging about the amount of video games that players can get on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

But at the same time, analysts have been reporting that overall game sales have declined and that those who pick up the new devices do not buy as many titles, probably because they have already invested a lot in the hardware.

Sony’s new offer is clearly designed to show publishers that the PlayStation 4, the PS3 and the Vita can be platforms on which they can generate solid sales.

It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft plans to introduce a similar sort of promotion for the Xbox One.

The company currently experimented with allowing players to get one free game when they pick up the console, and there are some rumors that another price cut might be introduced before Christmas.

Overall sales for the PS4 are over the 10 million mark all over the world.
