After the bump that hardware sales in Japan saw last week, backed by the release of some pretty important videogames, this week, numbers are down overall, with the PlayStation brand making the most of a rather bad situation.
The PlayStation Portable, the handheld gaming device from Sony, managed to be the best sold console in Japan, moving 43,463 units, which is 16,000 less than in the previous week. Sales are expected to continue to be strong, as Sony is releasing new colored handhelds from the Carnival line.
The
Nintendo DS managed to jump back to number two, with sales of 39,135 units, which is only 4,000 less than in previous week. The DSi is continuing to outsell the DS Lite model, although by a smaller margin. Third spot in the hardware charts went to the
PlayStation 3 home gaming console from Sony, which sold about 28,000 units, registering a drop of 11,000 units week over week.
The Nintendo Wii saw a small increase in its numbers, reaching 17,941 for the week (an increase of 1,000 units). The Microsoft made Xbox 360 is continuing a downward slide, shedding 6,000 units in sales to reach 8,378. The PlayStation 2 is pretty stable at around 4,800 units.
Koei took the first place in the videogame chart, with Warriors Orochi Z, a cross over between franchises Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors, which sold 112,000 units in its first week, although most of the content is recycled from two other titles in the series. BioHazard 5 is now at number two, with its PlayStation 3 version selling 61,000 units, while a Nintendo DS game, Picross, is at number three, with 38,000 copies sold. Sonic and the Black Knight from SEGA for the Nintendo Wii failed to spark interest and holds the 30th position.
