Sony Computer Entertainment has announced the incoming launch of the PlayStation Now service on the PlayStation 3, delivering access to a great collection of video games, on May 12.

The game streaming subscription service has been in testing for quite some time, having made its open-beta debut on the PS3 back in September last year.

The cloud-based gaming service is also available on the PlayStation 4 as well as on a few Sony Blu-Ray players and television sets, working as a sort of nostalgia machine for those who had to let go of their previous-gen console when upgrading to Sony's latest by enabling them to access a library of over 100 titles.

Sony has been constantly adding increasingly more exciting games to the library, the latest update being in April this year, when the company afforded users access to Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Uncharted 3, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, Super Stardust HD, and Hustle Kings.

The games library is constantly expanding

The service is powered by the technology developed by Gaikai, following 2012's acquisition by Sony, the same tech that enables the Remote Play feature between the PS4 and PS Vita devices.

PS Now subscriptions will become available for the PlayStation 3 home console in the US starting May 12, with a free 7-day trial, so you can give it a shot and see if there's anything in the sizable games library that you might fancy.

In addition to making the exciting announcement, Sony has also added a couple of new titles to the platform, namely Fat Princess, F1 2014, Sanctum 2, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, and Farming Simulator.

No doubt, many gamers would also like to see classic PlayStation One and PlayStation 2 video games make their way to the service, as some consider it disappointing to have to pay a subscription or rental fee in order to play PS3 games they already own or that they have recently played.
