Video game publisher and platform holder Sony announces that it is introducing an all new subscription service for the PlayStation Now service on January 13, allowing players to get access to a list of more than 100 titles that were launched on the PlayStation 3 by making only one monthly payment.

Initially, the option will only be offered on the PlayStation 4 in North America and other devices will receive it in the future.

Sony says that a one-month subscription to PlayStation Now will cost 19.99 dollars (15.6 Euro) and that gamers also have the option of picking up a three-month-long package for 44.99 dollars (33 Euro).

A seven-day-long trial is also introduced on the PlayStation 4 in order to give all potential users a clear image of what the new service can deliver.

The official announcement states, “We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.”

Sony also claims that more titles will be added in the near future and the list of publishers that are involved at the moment includes SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA and indie game makers.

A free theme linked to the PlayStation Now is being added in January to the PlayStation 4 and all those who download it will get a chance to win a one-year subscription.

PlayStation Now represents the long-term future for Sony

The new service, which allows players to stream video games without buying them outright, represents a long-term investment for Sony, allowing the company more control over the content it launches for the PlayStation 4 and its other devices.

It will be interesting to see how many players who are using PS Now will be tempted to pay for the monthly subscription and whether they will be satisfied with the games that will be added in the coming months.

At the moment, the PlayStation 4 is leading the current-gen sales race with the Xbox One and Microsoft might need to create its own streaming service in the near future to keep its own device competitive.
