The team in charge of the PlayStation Network at Sony is announcing that it is now allowing all those who have a sub account for the service to upgrade it to a master account, mostly because a significant section of the community has been asking for it via the feedback process.

At the moment, the process is only offered via a web-based interface and the company also plans to introduce a way to complete it on the PlayStation 4 home console.

The official announcement states, “Sub accounts allow users under the age of 18 to access PSN while letting parents or guardians manage their online experience. A variety of PSN features can be limited through sub accounts including messages, monthly spending limits, and gameplay broadcasts.”

All the profile info linked to a sub account on the PSN will be moved to the new master one and gamers will also keep their original Friends list and their Trophies.

The upgrade process involves logging into the account at the official site and then clicking on the message stating that an upgrade is available.

Clicking on the Upgrade Your Account option starts it off and gamers only need to then accept the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy before the entire process is complete.

The PlayStation Network is important for the future of the PlayStation 4

The fact that a process to move from a sub account to a master one is implemented on the PlayStation Network is a sign that Sony understands how important the service is to the future of its hardware, especially the PlayStation 4.

The community has been asking for the change for a long time, and it will be interesting to see what other features suggested by fans will be upgraded in the future.

Sony has already announced that it was rebranding its core entertainment services for the PSN, which involves the launch of a new music streaming option created in partnership with Spotify.

For now, the PlayStation 4 is the leader of the current generation of gaming hardware in terms of sales and has managed to take the number one spot for the month of January in the United States, ahead of the Xbox One from Microsoft.
