Sony has confirmed that the planned PlayStation Network maintenance period that started on April 15 has been extended and, as a result, the regular PlayStation Store update in North America has been delayed.

The PlayStation Network is a key feature for the PS3 and PS Vita consoles but the online service needs a lot of attention from Sony, including plenty of maintenance periods.

The latest maintenance was supposed to happen between April 15 and 16 but the official PlayStation Twitter account has confirmed that the period has been extended.

It's currently unable to say just when the maintenance will conclude and, as a result, the regular PlayStation Store update has been delayed in North America.

No other details have been shared but, considering this isn't the first time Sony's PSN maintenance periods have been extended, PS3 and PS Vita owners should just stick with single-player games.
