PlayStation Network Maintenance Extended, Sony Plans More Updates

Video game publisher Sony says that the planned maintenance for the PlayStation Network service is taking longer than initially expected and that service should be resumed for all users to the early hours of the morning, using clocks set to Pacific Standard Time.

The official Twitter message reads: “PSN Maintenance update: Though estimated to end at 8pm PT tonight, maintenance has been extended to tomorrow AM. Updates as we get them.”

The company has not given any reason for the delay.

It’s also not clear why Sony scheduled the maintenance in the first place, but it might have something to do with the updates introduced to the PlayStation Store.

The PlayStation 3 might also get a new firmware update in the coming weeks and Sony might also be getting its infrastructure ready for the multiplayer-enabled God of War: Ascension.

Comment #7 by: who on 18 Jan 2013, 14:37 UTC reply to this comment

we ALL think the exact same thing.....MONEY HUNGRY companies like sony do anything they want, WHEN they want. Sure they make HUNDRED of millions, literally to the point now theyve accrued over HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS off of us....but we arent important. What IS important, is "fixing" something that was never even "broke" in the first place. Ever heard the saying, "if it aint broke, dont fix it"? Ignore that. If you have billions, u dont NEED to think about anything other than making more money. Period.

Comment #8 by: who on 18 Jan 2013, 14:41 UTC reply to this comment

they dont care about any of us. They want money, and they do ANYTHING they want, and we just have to deal with it. They will try to use the excuse of, oh but its "free", well ya, basic service is, until they find playstation plus where they found a way to charge for their "free" internet. Oh those hundreds of billions they make.....ehhh....those millions of consumers who PAID for their products.....mehhh.....what REALLY matters, is a TWO DAY, OVER 35 hour "project" to fix a vague ps store "issue" that I assure....no one on EARTH cares about. Ya who cares about the service that makes them all that money, they need to put us on the back burner so that they can scheme up new and inventive ways of screwing us for....even MORE money, in the ps store! wooohoo! yay for capitalism and greed! hip hip, hooray!

Comment #9 by: g8tor316 on 18 Jan 2013, 14:47 UTC reply to this comment

i think this is garbage if the network is going to be there should be a way to still play online i mean theres only about 600k people not being able to play blackops 2 right now

Comment #10 by: CARL on 18 Jan 2013, 15:59 UTC reply to this comment

first off let me say this ps3 is started to suck and i used to love it! ps3 got hacked and was down for months because the security sucked and sony is just * idiots. and know my network is undergoing maintenance thats * if u idiot werent so * none of this * would be happening. also there is faulties with the playstation 3 because ive tested multiple systems you guys are brainless retards! its slow and cuts the volume out and makes scratching noises until u shut it off and everythang if these arfe the people in are future then watch out were doomed! xbox doesnt get hacked...xbox doesnt have mic problems ...and xbox doesnt freeze and do little stupid * like the ps3 and its because the person who created it wasnt a brainless idiot! IITS B.S. MAN

Comment #10.1 by: lol on 28 Feb 2013, 23:26 GMT

I went threw 3 Xbox 360 consoles Cuz the idiots who made it didn't know there crappy systems overheated. Only ever needed one ps3. Those Xbox 360 served better as pignatas then gaming consoles lol. I would never buy a shitbox again.

Really think Ps needs to get their ish together, they say it will be down a few hours and then I come home from work expecting to be able to play and not so much, come to find out its going to be down another 10 f*****g hour for BS maintanence for the ps store give me a break. I paid over 300$ for this * thing and I should be able to get online and play when I want not have to wait for them to do some * maint that doesn't even help the network. As well I'm tired of ps saying one time and then that expires and low and behold it is still down for a day or more after, just tell us the F*****G truth you * us off more by not being truthful with us!

I think they better fix all the glitchiness with Black Ops II while they have us waiting!

Comment #51 by: FPS Man on 19 Jan 2013, 02:09 UTC reply to this comment

This is a stupid move by Sony and makes me angry. They should have scheduled this earlier in the week so if there were delays it would not interfere with weekend peak hour playing. Thanks for thnking of your loyal customers. This is what happens when a company becomes so large it thinks it can do anything and get away with it. One more reason to hate Sony.

Do maintenance on Monday morning not Friday night

Comment #55 by: StrayDawg on 19 Jan 2013, 04:49 UTC reply to this comment

Sony owes us more than just a note that it's extending its maintenance time. It would make dealing with not being able to get on the network easier to tolerate. And I hope they get rid of the hackers that are still in the MK vs DC game. ~Stray~

Who cares, it is what it is and it has to be done to move forward. No matter how long it takes. Try a new flavor of entertainment for a day or two.
