The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation Network announces that it will bring the service down for a maintenance period on Monday, June 2 between 17:50 and 23:30 Greenwich Mean Time and that most of the apps associated with it will be unavailable at that time.

The official announcement was made via the official Twitter channel of the European division of the company and it thanks gamers for their patience and apologizes for all future inconveniences.

As always, Sony is not offering any information on what it plans to update or change when it comes to the PlayStation Network during the maintenance period.

The company has already announced that it plans to launch the PlayStation Now streaming service on the North American market in June, and the PSN might require a significant update in order to support the amount of content to be streamed when it goes live.

Judging from the way previous maintenance periods for the PlayStation Network worked, those who log in with at least 24 hours ahead of the start date will still be able to engage in multiplayer matches in their favorite titles.

Sony has said that it has long-term plans to update the services associated with the PlayStation 4, the PS3 and the Vita.
