Sony announces that it has rescheduled the start date of its planned maintenance period for the PlayStation Network to start at 5 AM Pacific Standard Time today, with the period of downtime now set to last for about 17 hours until 9 PM.

The official account of the PlayStation brand states, “Updated timing: PSN maintenance tomorrow, 3/4 from 5am - 9pm Pacific Time. Online play still accessible if you've logged in recently.”

All the core services linked to the PlayStation Network will be down, including the Store and account management.

Sony is not offering any reasons for the downtime and seems unwilling to tell players whether there’s any chance that the unavailability period will be extended past 9 PM.

The company has already pledged to expand the PSN for the coming PlayStation 4 home console.
