Sony claims all problems have been solved

The PlayStation Network service has been down for a few hours earlier in the day, and although the team in charge of it at Sony claims that all functionality should now be restored, some gamers are still having problems accessing the official homepage of the store, although it seems that separate pages for games can be viewed individually.

The problem seems to be random at the moment and it’s unclear how much of the community using PSN is affected.

LizardSquad, a hacking group that has long been targeting video game-related services, is at the moment claiming that it has brought down the PlayStation Network service and is suggesting that it might also attack the similar Xbox Live from Microsoft.

The official Twitter account of the group has also said that gamers should go out and buy Nintendo products, although it’s unclear whether this is the actual reason for their actions.

LizardSquad is also linked to an older attack that targeted some Xbox Live functionality, but Microsoft has not offered any clear info on the incident.

It seems that the group is unable to cause major damage to the infrastructure that the two companies are using and can only affect the services for limited periods of time.

Both Microsoft and Sony are saying that all personal data that gamers have used to create accounts and to pay for content is safe and that they are constantly updating their infrastructure to deal with new threats.

The future of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 is a connected one

Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network are very important for modern gaming because they allow players to connect with friends and rivals in multiplayer matches and give them a variety of applications which can deliver more entertainment-focused content.

Both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 will only expand the range of their online services, and that means Sony and Microsoft will need to deal with even more attention from hackers and other groups bent on stealing data and causing chaos.

In 2011, the PSN was affected by a massive breach that brought the network down for months and caused a lot of personal data to become available online.

Sony has not completely regained the trust of gamers and a similar incident in 2014 or 2015 could be a big problem for the PlayStation 4, which has been selling very well since it was introduced last year.
