The incident might be linked to Sunday's DDoS attack

The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation Network announces that it is aware that the service is once again down across both North America and Europe and apologizes to gamers who are unable to connect to their accounts or run multiplayer matches for their games.

The official Twitter account for the entire PlayStation brand says that, at the moment, the engineering team is aware of the problems and are working to solve them, but there’s no information on what has caused the outage and whether it is in any way connected to the incidents that took place over the weekend.

Late on Sunday, a DDoS attack targeted both the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live from Microsoft and brought the services down for some time, although the Sony solution was affected more.

A bomb thread was also made against the president of Sony Online Entertainment.

The company has made it clear that no sensitive data linked to accounts or personal identities has been stolen and is apparently upgrading its security to deal with any other similar attacks.

If the current incident is connected to the one on Sunday, then gamers might be in for a long downtime, which is a shame given that today is the North American launch for Madden NFL 15.
