The PlayStation Network is set to come back online in a few more days, at least according to Sony, which says that it will inform its customers when exactly that happens.

Three weeks ago, the Japanese company was struck by a hacker attack and forced to take down the PlayStation Network online service in order to rebuild the system in a more secure way.

Since then, a lot of time has passed, during which PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable owners have been growing impatient because they could not access any online features for their consoles or games.

Now, Sony's Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media, Patrick Seybold, posted a new update on the PlayStation blog, saying that, despite previous statements that said the PSN is going to be back on May 31, the service is much closer to its return.

"I know you all want to know exactly when the services will be restored," Seybold said. "At this time, I can’t give you an exact date, as it will likely be at least a few more days. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through this process."

Sony laid out a deadline for the restoration process last week, but was struck with a new hacker attack, this time on its Online Entertainment databases, so it had to handle that crisis as well.

Now, it seems that Sony is finally getting ready to restart the PlayStation Network, at least in some way in the near future.

The company revealed earlier this week that multiple "make good" strategies are going to be used in order to compensate PSN users for all the trouble, including free games for the PS3 or PSP, a free 30-day membership for Qriocity users, online identity protection programs and more, especially for players of online games like DC Universe Online or Free Realms.
