Today, the PlayStation family of home consoles is getting a musical boost, in the form of a brand new service, PlayStation Music featuring Spotify, replacing Sony's former service.

Sony's Music Unlimited is no longer available, with PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners now being able to access a new app, launching in 41 countries around the globe, enabling most of Spotify's expansive user base of around 60 million people to stream their favorite music while engaged with their favorite video games.

Not only that, but you can also adjust the sound mix, tuning the video game's sound level and the music playback volume, and the feature is compatible with all available games.

The PlayStation Music service is available completely free, as it doesn't require a PlayStation Plus membership to be accessed. It can be used with either a free Spotify account or a premium one, that comes at a monthly fee.

Sony and Spotify worked together in order to present a seamless experience for PlayStation console owners, so that users of the music streaming service could feel at home when making use of PlayStation Music.

A great way to enjoy music on the PS4, not to mention the only one

Users who previously held subscriptions to Music Unlimited get a 60-day trial of the service, and new Spotify users get a 30-day trial. PlayStation Music enables you to stream whatever music you like while enjoying games, just like Music Unlimited did, with the added benefits of Spotify integration.

This means that, once you sign in using your Spotify account, you will be able to browse all your existing playlists and saved music, as well as other people's playlists that you're currently following.

Furthermore, you're also able to search for music or browse Spotify's very own curated playlists, and you can even turn your console into a jukebox when you're not playing anything.

The new app comes with full controller integration, and you can change songs add tunes to the queue or otherwise navigate through it using either the DualShock 3 or DualShock 4 controller.

For the time being, this remains the best way to enjoy music on the PlayStation 4, as the home console has yet to receive MP3 playback support from Sony.

For the time being, there is no information on what Sony plans to do with the app in the future, but taking into account the fact that it's not called the Spotify app for PlayStation, but instead PlayStation Music featuring Spotify, it's safe to say that other similar services might get integrated at some point in the future.
