Sony Computer Entertainment of America, the hardware manufacturer and video games publisher, has announced that it's PlayStation Move motion tracking controller has shipped 1 million units to retailers set in North America and Latin America in the first 30 days the new product was on sale.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe recently said that sales of the device reached the 1.5 million units region in the territory.

Jack Tretton, who is the Chief Executive Officer of SCEA, has stated, “We had to go back and increase production twice, we're absolutely maxed out right now.”

Sony has not said which version of the PlayStation Move sold best.

The easiest way to pick it up is the full bundle, which includes the Move, a PlayStation Eye camera and the title Sports Champions, coming for 99 dollars.

There's also a package which also includes a PlayStation 3 home console that sells for 399 dollars.

Players who plan to use the Move for more complex gaming experiences like Killzone 3, a first person shooter from Guerrilla Games, can also pick up a Navigation Controller, which has an analog stick and D pad, for 29 dollars.

The official launch date for Move was September 15 and a lot of analysts predicted that the device will see weak sales and that it will fail to move significant numbers of units.

Microsoft will also move into the motion tracking space on November 4 in North America, launching the Kinect peripheral for the Xbox 360, which does not actually need a physical controller and tracks actual body motions.

Both companies are looking to attract gamers that have until now enjoyed the Nintendo Wii console by offering better tracking systems and High Definition enabled gaming experiences.

The problem for both Kinect and PlayStation Move is that they need to sell significant numbers in their first months in order to create a player base which then becomes attractive to developers and publishers.
