Sony has just deployed a major update to its PlayStation Home online network, taking it to version 1.55, while preparing it for the major overhaul announced last month.

Sony's PlayStation Home impressed quite a few PlayStation 3 console owners, allowing them to interact with friends and other gamers like themselves online in a variety of environments. The Japanese company confirmed recently, however, that the service is going to be overhauled, in order to properly support social gaming experiences with other Home users.

Now, in order to prepare the service for its redesign, Sony deployed patch 1.55 for PlayStation Home, bringing a brand new start-up experience as well as improvements to the Wardrobe and Furniture browsers.

Sony advises PS3 owners that had older versions of Home, before 1.40, to "wait for the orange “hard drive activity” light to stop flashing on your PS3 before commencing the patching process."
