The homebrewers strike again!

Turns out that homebrewers have struck gold again, by making most PSX titles available for iPhone and iPod Touch users, through a brand new emulator. This is the second time I've seen Apple's "Jesus Phone" working wonders with famous titles, as it already support a cool Nintendo emulator, courtesy of the same homebrewers. The new piece of software, psx4all makes about 75% of the PSX games compatible with the above-mentioned phone and iPod.

The developer who's working on this neat project still has some fiddling around to do when it comes to saving games on a virtual memory card, but it seems that a beta version of the software is coming pretty soon. While developing a PSX emulator is not a huge deal nowadays, that long-awaited PS2 emulator, bet it for PC or other platforms continues to be a beautiful dream. I guess that we'll get older while waiting for a PS3 emulator to come out, or even one for Microsoft's Xbox 360. Nintendo seems compatible with this type of software, the Japanese company's consoles being easily emulated on most platforms.

Here's what the emulator's developer said, in an interview with SPOnG:

"What can you look forward to in the first release of psx4iphone? Depends on how the beta testing goes. I will be working on the existing dynarec (cpu emulation) quite a lot to improve performance as it will be required. The screen scaling and screen placement will be drastically improved over the above images. Memory card support will work, and save states might work."

He added: "Sound will be implemented as well. The interface/gui will be very similar to gpSPhone's just with 4 hard buttons instead of just A+B, and L2 and R2 buttons. A rough estimate would be about 75% of games will be compatible. With such a large library of games, this may or may not include your favorite game. Performance will have to be increased about 25% to get a good portion of games running smoothly. This can be done".

I, for one, am still waiting for a Wii to PSP emulator, as it seems that portable gadgets have an affinity for such pieces of software.
